Regional Impact Marathon
zero stray pawject and the municipality of marathon team up to introduce the zero stray prevention program to the mainland in marathon
Stray Prevention Program Marathon
Our collaboration with the municipality of Marathon to reduce the ‘production of stray dogs kicked off in January 2021 with wider subsidy and education initiative.
Education on Responsible dog ownership
A 360 awareness and education campaign was launched earlier this year to educate every resident of the municipality on responsible dog ownership through an array of actions. 25,000 Waterbill inserts were sent out to every household in Marathon informing about the legal requirement to microchip and register and why it is important to spay and neuter, informing about the benefits of neutering and debunking some of the common myths. Posters were designed, produced, funded and hang up in key locations in Marathon.
Municipal Registry
To better understand how many owned dogs there are in the Marathon and to gather the right data, Zero Stray Pawject is helping the municipality of Marathon to set up a municipal registry of all owned dogs, similarly to our work in Aegina.
2,000 municipal dog tags
Zero Stray Pawject designed, produced, and funded 2,000 municipal dog tags that are handed out to every responsible owner who microchipped their dog. The objective is to drive change in behavior.
Subsidies for over 800 owned dogs to be chipped and neutered
In addition, the municipality of Marathon offers subsidies as part of a financial relief package to owners who cannot afford. Over 800 owned dogs in Marathon will be microchipped and neutered for almost for free in 2021. These subsidies are kindly funded by Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and Zero Stray Pawject, Inc.
