In times of COVID, strays are suffering more than ever. We cannot turn our backs on them right now.

We must ask our Zero Stray Pawject friends for help!

Greece is a country with 10 million people and more than 1 million estimated stray dogs roaming the streets. Every stray dog was once a pet, owned by someone. All stray dogs are on the street for no fault of their own, just because they became victims of irresponsible ownership and abandonment. Now during COVID, more pets find themselves abandoned and they are suffering even more.

But It Does Not Have To Be That Way!

We Intervene BEFORE Dogs End Up On The Street.

In 2018, we partnered  with the mayor of Aegina, the director of public health, the municipality of Aegina, the police, coast guard, forest police, the local primary and secondary schools and local animal welfare and shelter to eradicate the root causes that create stray dogs. Bad owners can abandon their dogs because the dogs are anonymous. Anonymity of a dog enables an owner to NOT take responsibility for his or her dog.

We changed this: we saw FEWER dogs being abandoned between 2018 and 2019 by Subsidizing Microchipping  to ensure every OWNED dog is marked. The chip traces an abandoned dog back to the owner who can receive a fine of up to 30,000 EUR and up to 1 year in jail. This makes bad owners think twice.  In the last 2 years we managed to chip and register over 550 dogs! 550 dogs that WILL NEVER GET ABANDONED!

In addition, we started SUBSIDIZING AND PROMOTING NEUTERING of owned dogs to ensure that owners become responsible and stop producing unwanted litters who often end up on the street.

We also started EDUCATION at primary and secondary schools to turn children into animal ambassadors in their families.

Our program went very well and achieved early successes of fewer dogs being abandoned, ending up fighting for survival on the street.

But Our Funding Stopped Due to COVID

Will You Help Us Safe Countless Lives From Ever Ending Up On The Street?

Due to the economic consequences of COVID, many owners can no longer afford vet services . But without having dogs chipped, registered and neutered, the vicious circle of abandonment - the number one reason for dogs ending up on the street in Greece - will continue. We already see an increase of abandoned pets and want to intervene.

Due to COVID, we now have hundreds of owners who reached out and asked to benefit from low cost subsidized micrchipping and neutering, but we must find the funds to help them.
